Characters
Friend or Foe: Legendary heroes weaving a story that transcends time.
Tokugawa Takechiyo
The grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who founded the Edo Shogunate. As the heir apparent, he was given the childhood name Takechiyo, the same as Ieyasu. However, from a young age, he could see guardian spirits and spent his time drawing them, leading many within the household to believe that his talented younger brother, Kunimatsu, would become the next shogun. At one point, Ieyasu, who had become the Ōgosho clarified the order of seniority and declared that Takechiyo was the rightful successor.
Tokugawa Kunimatsu
The grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Edo Shogunate, and Takechiyo’s younger brother. From a young age, he was exceptionally talented and favored by their parents, leading many within the household to regard him as the next shogun. However, at one point, Ieyasu, who had become the Ōgosho, clarified the order of seniority, abruptly closing the path for Kunimatsu to become shogun.
Himiko
An ancient queen said to possess mystical powers. She became the ruler of Yamatai Kingdom, succeeding the war-driven male king.
Born with a natural talent for Kido, a form of sorcery, she is said to have guided her people. Her name appears in the “Gishi Wajinden”, a section of the Chinese historical text *Records of the Three Kingdoms*, though much about her origins remains shrouded in mystery.
Yagyu Munenori
“The swordsmanship instructor for the Tokugawa shogunate. His father, the swordsman Yagyu Sekishusai, gained an audience with Tokugawa Ieyasu and demonstrated the art of mutō-dori (disarming an opponent unarmed), which led both father and son to serve Ieyasu. Munetoshi distinguished himself at the Battle of Sekigahara, earning the restoration of the Yagyu family’s former lands. As a swordsman, he established the Yagyu Shinkage-ryu school and was appointed the shogunate’s official swordsmanship instructor, personally training Takechiyo in the art of the sword from a young age.
Hattori Hanzo
Saito Fuku
Takechiyo’s wet nurse, commonly known as Fuku. She is the daughter of Saito Toshizo, a chief retainer of Akechi Mitsuhide, and served as an Onmyo Mage under the monk Tenkai. She aided the Tokugawa side during the Battle of Sekigahara. In recognition of her contributions, Tokugawa Ieyasu appointed her as the wet nurse to his grandson Takechiyo, whom she has protected and raised since childhood. She also teaches Takechiyo Onmyo Magic as a means to defend against impending calamities.
