Final Fantasy VIII Remastered retains its original 4:3 aspect ratio in both FMVs and real-time graphic rendering, but enhance visuals with several characters, enemies, GF, and objects refined to look better. The music is unchanged from the original PlayStation version.
In a world where an ancient energy known as the Sorceress Power is passed down through generations, the peace of the realm is threatened when the evil Sorceress Edea takes power as ruler of the Galbadia Republic. Squall, a member of Balamb Garden Military Academy’s elite mercenary force SeeD, other allies from the Garden, and Rinoa, a member of the resistance, join together on a journey to fight against Sorceress Edea, who shows hostility toward the Garden.
SQUALL LEONHART: The main protagonist of the story. A cadet at the Balamb Garden Military Academy’s elite mercenary force SeeD. Impassive and cold, Squall is an introverted and cool-headed guy lacking a strong sense of camaraderie who dislikes people stepping into his personal territory.
RINOA HEARTILLY: A cheerful girl with a life-of-the-party liveliness and has the heart to treat everyone fairly. She is true to her feelings and bears her heart on her sleeve without hesitation. But from time to time, she says things to hide her true feelings…
SEIFER ALMASY: A SeeD cadet with great aptitude, but is perceived as a troublemaker because of his inability to follow orders and keep a level head. He thinks highly of Squall’s abilities but also strongly regards him as a big rival.
SELPHIE TILMITT: An upbeat girl whose personality doesn’t fit the mold of a Military Academy cadet. She has a very laid-back way of speaking, which can often throw people off.
ZELL DINCHT: A martial arts specialist who entered the Balamb Garden at the age of 13, following the footsteps of his grandfather, who was an admirable soldier. His action is ruled by instinct, and he has a difficult time thinking rationally. But he is honest and diligent at heart.
LAGUNA LOIRE: A cheerful man with great generosity, helping the weak and breaking the strong. As a soldier turned journalist, he now uses a pen instead of a sword to bravely face the evil in the world.
QUISTIS TREPE: Becoming a member of SeeD at the age of 15, Quistis is now the instructor of Squall and other cadets. Despite looking as if she is composed and assertive, she is actually prone to failure and easily feels down by the smallest things.
IRVINE KINNEAS: A member of Galbadia Garden who refers to himself as “the best shooter in the Garden.” It seems there are no doubts that he is a great shooter, but he may be overconfident, and also is a ladies’ man. He does look insensitive and shallow, but actually, he is surprisingly very sensitive and honest.
